Executive Chairman of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, Honourable Babatunde Olaniyan has declared that the club is ready to fight for domestic silverwares ahead of the kick-off of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) slated for January 8, 2023.
The Oluyole Warriors narrowly survived relegation last season and the team went on to reappoint Gbenga Ogunbote to steer the ship of the club after he guided Remo Stars to CAF Confederation Cup qualification last term.
Ogunbote has already hit the ground running as he inspired the Ibadan-based side to the NPFL Dozy Mmobuosi Super Cup triumph, defeating Enyimba 3-2 in the final.
Following the recent preseason successes, Olaniyan believes a continental ticket with qualification to CAF club competitions from the upcoming abridged league season next year will be a huge leap for the club.
“It (the draws) is just like any other draw and It’s normal. We will approach it with all seriousness,” the former lawmaker told Tribune Sports.
“What the management is trying to do is that the moment we are going for away games, we will make sure we arrange their match bonuses and allowances and as they are winning their games, they get their bonuses. This will be a moral booster for the players.
“This we have been doing before now. We did it during the Super 4 in Lagos and that is the way we will continue to do it. When they win their matches home or away, they get their bonuses instantly.
“I’m sure they will always want to collect their bonuses and keep their salaries. Continental ticket is our target this season and we are going to work on it.”
Shooting Stars have been drawn in Group A alongside Nasarawa United, Plateau United, El-Kanemi Warriors, Gombe United, Enyimba International FC, Remo Stars, Akwa United, Kwara United, and Bendel Insurance for the upcoming 2022/2023 NPFL abridged league season.
Ogunbote’s side will aim to get their campaign off to flying start against Plateau United on January 8, 2023.
