NPFL: Abdu Maikaba laments costly loss as Wikki Tourists fall to Remo Stars

By Wale Mustapha

Wikki Tourists head coach, Abdu Maikaba, has expressed deep disappointment following his team’s 2-0 defeat to Remo Stars in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 7 fixture on Monday.

The Bauchi-based side held firm in the first half but succumbed to two second-half goals at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, courtesy of Adama Goita and Alex Oyowah, handing the reigning champions all three points.

Speaking after the match, Maikaba described the loss as a painful setback, especially after what he considered a disciplined first-half performance from his players.

“It’s painful because we played well, especially in the first half,” Maikaba said in his post-match interview.

“My players showed character and followed our tactical plan, but in football, concentration must last until the final whistle.”

The result leaves Wikki Tourists in 15th place on the NPFL table with eight points. They will look to bounce back when they face Kwara United in their next outing.
