By Monsurah Olatunji
Chairman of Doma United, Sulaiman Umar is very optimistic if his team ahead of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) 2022/23 season which kickoff on January 8.
Following Friday’s draw, the newly promoted side were drawn in Group B with Wikki Tourist, Lobi Stars, Rivers United, Abia Warriors, Dakkada FC, Rangers International, Sunshine Stars, Bayelsa United and Niger Tornadoes.
Despite being newcomers, Umar believes that his team is not a pushover and the coming on board of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) led by Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye to administer the NPFL has given him fresh hope of better fortunes for his team.
“Doma United is in the NPFL to compete and no team is a push over. Doma United is not a push over,” Umar told the media.
“We will be playing against strong teams in Group B and our first game is against Sunshine Stars. We believe that the team can start strong at home by winning her first game of the season,” he added.
The administrator further expressed delight over the intervention of the IMC on taking care of match indemnities of officials throughout the season and believes this will ensure free and fair officiating throughout the season.
“Hearing that the IMC will take care of all indemnities of the match officials and that referees will get credit alert of their indemnities before they officiate a game is very good,” he continued.
“Failure to pay match indemnities has been the bane of the league in the past, but this is a good development that will ensure fairness and improve the quality of NPFL games,” he said.
Domo United will begin their maiden campaign in the 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League against Sunshine Stars on January 8.
