NPFL: Finidi applauds Rivers United’s resilience in hard-fought draw at Insurance

By Wale Mustapha
George Finidi, Technical Adviser of Rivers United, has praised his team for their resilient performance in securing a valuable point against Insurance FC on Sunday.
Despite playing the final 30 minutes with only 10 men after goalkeeper Adeniyi Bamidele was sent off before the 60-minute mark, the Pride of Rivers managed to hold their hosts to a goalless draw in the Matchday One fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.
Finidi expressed his satisfaction with the result, given the challenging circumstances. “It’s never easy, especially at a venue where it’s tough to even secure a point. Having played with one man less, I must commend my boys for their defensive efforts and determination,” he said.
He acknowledged that this is just the beginning of the season and emphasized the need for the team to build on this result.
“This is only the start. We need to go back home and consolidate. We’ll be playing our next game at home, and we’ll strive to give our best to secure a win. Every match in the NPFL is challenging.”
Finidi concluded by highlighting the significance of the point earned. “We’re pleased with this point. The team gave their all, and getting this one point is crucial for us.”
Rivers United will next face Heartland FC at home on Sunday, September 15, in their first home game of the season.
