NPFL: Gbenga Ogunbote demands more from Shooting Stars after Kwara United draw

By Saheed Afolabi
Veteran coach, Gbenga Ogunbote feels disappointed with Shooting Stars’ inability of record a win following a 0-0 draw against Kwara United in a Nigeria Premier Football League match last Thursday.
The Oluyole Warriors made a bright start to their season’s campaign with a 3-3 draw against Plateau United but could not ground out the maximum points in a barren draw at home to Kwara United in Ibadan.
Following their winless streak on two matches, the former Remo Stars gaffer explained their awful display against the Harmony Boys, while demanding more from his players ahead of their upcoming matches.
“We didn’t get it right that’s just the only thing. We just need to go back, correct the mistakes, they were the ones that played and scored three goals on the road and coming home they couldn’t,” Ogunbote opens up to media.
“We want to look at a lot of things that could be responsible you understand, sometimes complacency can come in, you understand my point but nevertheless, thank God it happened in good time.
“We would try and do just that, you see if you look at Kwara United, they cut off the midfield, there were not playing in the midfield, all they were just doing is cutoff the midfield and it works for them.
“So sometimes when you get a new team and it doesn’t pay you, all you need to is that as long as we are concerned, the difference in the game is the goal that we didn’t score but the boys did their best. Of course, we just played two games out of 18 games, we may not have picked the maximum points but the boys have shown some promises.
“So all we need to do is the first thing to qualify for the Super 6, to be among the best 3 that will play in the Super 6, so after the qualification, then we can see.”
The Ibadan based outfit resigned Sikiru Alimi to the Oluyole Warriors’ fold and the manager has revealed that the Super Eagles man will be availiable for selection when they take on Remo Stars in coming days.
“As soon as he’s (Sikiru Alimi) ready for selection for games we will see him. It’s going to be an interesting one (Remo Stars game), with the type of officiating that we are getting now, it’s going to be an interesting one,” he said.
Shooting Stars will travel to Ikenne to face Remo Stars in their next topflight encounter this weekend as both Ogunbote and Alimi to face off with their highflying former employers.
