NPFL: Magin blames complacency after Niger Tornadoes drop points to Kun Khalifat

By Wale Mustapha

Niger Tornadoes head coach, Majin Mohammed, has admitted his side paid the price for underestimating their opponents following a 1-1 home draw against Kun Khalifat FC in a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 7 fixture on Sunday.

The hosts took an early lead at the Bako Kotangora Stadium in Minna through Abba Khalid, who converted a loose ball inside the area during the first half. However, their advantage was wiped out late in the game when Kun Khalifat’s Akuta Ugochukwu struck in the 81st minute to earn the visitors a share of the spoils.

Speaking to the club’s media team after the match, Magin expressed frustration over his players’ attitude, accusing them of complacency.

“The players judged Kun Khalifat based on their position on the table, and I warned against that,” he said. “They underrated the opponent and we paid for it.”

The coach also pointed to fatigue as a key factor, explaining that the team had only recently returned from an away fixture in Port Harcourt and had limited preparation time.

“We played in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, travelled back Thursday night, and couldn’t train properly on Friday. We used almost the same squad, so naturally it had an impact,” Magin added.

Despite the result, the Tornadoes boss insisted the team’s overall performance was not poor and called for calm from fans, promising to recover the dropped points in upcoming matches.

“We didn’t play badly, we just didn’t take our chances. In football, you can win, draw or lose. Others even lost at home this weekend. We should be grateful for the point and look ahead.”

Niger Tornadoes will next travel to Ozoro for a crucial away clash against Warri Wolves as they aim to revive momentum in the league campaign.
