By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Matchday four of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season kicked off with two exciting fixtures on Saturday.

In the early match, Nasarawa United secured a 2-1 victory over Ikorodu City at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

Anas Yusuf put the visitors ahead just before halftime in the 45th minute, but Ikorodu City responded with an equalizer from Chiaka ThankGod in stoppage time.

The turning point came 20 minutes into the second half when Kabiru Balogun netted the winner for Nasarawa United, propelling them to sixth place on the table with five points from four matches. Meanwhile, Ikorodu City remains at the bottom of the standings with just one point.

In the other match, Sunshine Stars edged past Akwa United with a 2-1 win in Uyo. Nwosu Chinadu and Seth Mayi both scored to give the Akure Gunners a commanding lead.

Although Wisdom Ndon pulled a goal back for the Promise Keepers in the 83rd minute, Sunshine Stars held on for the win.

This result lifted them to second place in the league, accumulating seven points from four games—two points behind leaders Remo Stars, who will face Rangers International FC on Sunday. Akwa United currently sits in 13th place with two points from three matches.
