By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership side Naija Ratels have announced the appointment of Coach Sabo Okala Awala as their new Technical Adviser ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Awala takes over from Coach Samson Keshi, who departed after steering the club to a sixth-place finish at the 2024/25 Super 6 Championship in Ikenne, Ogun State.

Speaking at his unveiling ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, Awala expressed his appreciation to the club’s hierarchy for the opportunity and pledged to deliver improved performances.

“I’m very grateful to the management for appointing me as Technical Adviser of this great club. We are going to put in everything humanly and technically possible to achieve a lot this season, and hopefully, we are aiming for the league title,” Awala said.

Awala previous coached Honey Badgers in the NWFL Championship before joining Confluence Queens.

At the Lokoja based side, Awala led the team to the NWFL Premiership Super Six during the 2023/24 season.

The Ratels will now turn their focus to preseason preparations, with the new coach tasked with building on last season’s foundation and mounting a serious challenge for the NWFL Premiership title.

The team hope to replicate and even surpass last season’s feat when the 2025/26 season get underway.
