NWFL Premiership embark on mid-season break, open transfer window

After 42 games across seven match weeks, the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership will embark on a two-week mid-season break from January 18, 2023.
During the mid-season break, the last transfer window for the season will be opened with clubs expected to beef up their squads ahead of the second stanza of the league.
The second stanza of the league which will have another seven-match weeks with 42 games will resume on February 8, 2023.
At the end of the regular season, the top three teams from Group A and B will compete at the Super Six where the league Champions will emerge.
The Champions will represent Nigeria at the 2023 West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) Zonal Qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League for a chance to qualify for the main tournament.
Bayelsa Queens won the league last season and added the WAFU-B Zonal title to its trophy cabinet before a bronze medal finish at the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League.
Delta Queens top Group A with 16 points ahead of Bayelsa Queens (11 points), Rivers Angels (9 points), Heartland Queens (8 points), Naija Ratels (7 points), Royal Queens (4 points), and Osun Babes (3 points).
In Group B, Edo Queens hold sway with 12 points over Nasarawa Amazons (10 points), Abia Angels (10 points), Confluence Queens (10 points), Adamawa Queens (9 points), FC Robo Queens (7 points), and Ibom Angels (3 points).
Confluence Queens’ Chioma Moses and Delta Queens’ Chinaza Agoh with five goals apiece ended the first stanza as top goal scorers.
Naija Ratels’ Agama Ziperekefeghe and Abia Angels’ Nkechi Agams followed closely with four goals.
The trio of Mercy Omokwo (Delta Queens), Folashade Ijamilusi (FC Robo Queens), and Ajimuda Rebecca (Edo Queens) have scored three goals each.
