NWFL Premiership MD6 Wrap: Heartland clinch first win, Rivers end Delta perfect run

After four games without a win in the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, newly promoted Heartland Queens finally earned its first win of the campaign with a 1-0 win over Royal Queens of Warri.

The visitors from Owerri scored the solitary goal via Orji Chinwendu in the 40th minute as the defeat was Canadian Geese’s fourth of the season and third in a row.

Delta Queens finally drop points for the first time this season after playing out a 0-0 draw with Rivers Angels in Port Harcourt as the draw ended the Asaba-based side’s perfect start to the season after four straight wins.

Holders, Bayelsa Queens for the first time this season concede a goal after four straight clean sheets with a 1-1 draw with Naija Ratels FC at FIFA Goal Project pitch, Abuja.

Sunday Juliet’s 17th-minute header for the Prosperity Girls canceled by Agama Ziperekefeghe’s 73rd-minute equaliser as both side settled for a stalemate.

In Yola, Adamawa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons looked destined to share the spoils but Ijeoma Obi’s 88th-minute strike from the spot handed hosts a late 1-0 win over the Lafia ladies.

Elsewhere, Confluence Queens secured consecutive victories with a 2-1 win over FC Robo Queens in Lokoja.

Folashade Ijamilusi had given the Lagos Landladies a 55th-minute lead before Zainab Azeez’s brace in the 74th and 80th minute respectively helped Lokoja-based side to a 2-1 win.

Delta Queens top Group A with 13 points, two points ahead of Bayelsa Queens and five points better than third-placed Rivers Angels.

Edo Queens with an outstanding match against Abia Angels on Thursday top Group B with 12 points, five points ahead of Adamawa Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, Abia Angels, and Confluence Queens all with seven points apiece.
