By Saheed Afolabi
The NWFL Premiership Super Six match day two witnessed shocking moments and results as Bayelsa Queens defeated Robo Queens 1-0 in the first game as Confluence Queens stuns Edo Queens 1-0 on Wednesday.
The Prosperity Girls dominated proceedings in the first 45 minutes as Flourish Sabastine created chances but her teammates couldn’t convert.
The best chance of the half fell on the part of Robo Queens as their star player, Esther Onyenezide failed to beat Omini in a one on one situation. The first half ended in a stalemate.
There were push from both sides to draw the first blood of the encounter but it was Sabastine who races through on goal to fire past the Robo Queens goalkeeper to give the Prosperity Girls the lead in the 57th minute.
The Lagos Landladies weren’t ready to leave without giving a good fight in the game as they came out blazing high but they couldn’t make use their chances in the final third.
Onyenezide dribbles past the last Bayelsa Queens defender and was through on goal with the opposing goalkeeper to beat, she lost the ball after trying to beat the goalkeeper.
The Prosperity Girls were able to hold forth to take away a lone goal victory.
Bayelsa Queens will face Rivers Angels in their next game on Friday June eight to determine who will reach the final or fight for a third place finish.
Edo Queens 0-1 Confluence Queens
It was a fairytale victory for Confluence Queens as they defeated Edo Queens 1-0 at the Stephen Keshi stadium, Asaba.
Edo Queens should have finished off the game in the first half but they were wasteful with their chances in front of goal.
It was just a matter of time before the Benin Ladies were stunned by the Lokoja girls as Chukuwuamaka Osigwe grabbed the only goal of the encounter in the 56th minute.
With the exclusive win by Confluence Queens, it has thrown open the group B as Delta Queens sit atop with three points and plus two goal difference while the Lokoja Girls have three points and minus one goal difference.
Edo Queens have no point and need to win their last game against Delta Queens by at least one goal to have any chance of fighting for a podium finish.
