Head Coach of Rivers Angels, Edwin Okon has lauded his players doggedness in their hard fought 2-1 win at Osun Babes in the Nigeria Women Premier League, NWPL encounter on Wednesday.
The Jewels of Rivers looked more of a rejigged side in Osogbo as they took the lead inside opening three minutes through Chiamaka Okwuchukwu as she intercepted the ball from an Osun Babes player outside the box.
Oghenebrume Ikekhua doubled the lead for Okon’s side just before halftime. Olamide Bolaji, however pulled one back from the spot in the 58th minute but could not stop Rivers from to have a glimpse of hope for a comeback.
The pressure from the hosts was not enough to stop Rivers from recording their first away win of the season and the tactician tasked his wards to consolidate on Osun Babes win against Naija Ratels in Abuja.
“We came into the game with our minds set on picking all three points here today and I’m glad we got that at the end of day,”
“It was a very good game and good fight from my girls despite how fatigued they were coming into today’s tie.
“I am happy with the team, it is done and dusted here, we are now shifting our attention to the next game which is in Abuja against Naija Ratels. We need to consolidate on this win come next week.
“The arrival of the Osun State Governor even gave my girls more reasons to fight harder to ensure they taste defeat in front of their fans.”
Rivers Angels will be on another trip next week as they face Naija Ratels in Abuja.
