Odion Ighalo Strikes First Goal in Chinese Super League Opener for Changchun Yatai

Nigerian forward Odion Ighalo marked his inaugural goal of the season in the Chinese Super League as Changchun Yatai settled for a 1-1 draw against Beijing Renhe in a Sunday encounter. Ighalo’s breakthrough strike arrives after three league fixtures for Changchun Yatai in the early stages of the campaign.

The match unfolded with Beijing Renhe seizing a 1-0 advantage in the 28th minute, courtesy of a goal by Gang Wang. However, just moments before the close of the first half, Ighalo propelled Changchun Yatai back into contention, leveling the scoreline with a crucial goal.

Despite Ighalo’s equalizer, the draw leaves Changchun Yatai still searching for their maiden victory in the league, accumulating two draws and one defeat across the initial three fixtures. This result positions them in the 12th spot within the 16-team CSL table, currently securing two points.

Last season, Ighalo’s impact was evident as he netted an impressive tally of 15 goals from 27 league appearances for Changchun Yatai, a performance that significantly contributed to the team’s campaign.

The Nigerian striker’s early strike in this new season signifies a promising start for Ighalo individually, yet it underscores the team’s ongoing quest for consistency and their pursuit of securing victories in the upcoming fixtures.

Changchun Yatai will aim to build on this performance as they continue their CSL journey, seeking to capitalize on Ighalo’s prowess upfront to bolster their position within the league standings in the matches ahead.
