Osun United inch closer to signing former Doma United coach Akinade Onigbinde

By Dayo Awoniyi

With the 2025/26 Nigeria National League (NNL) season fast approaching, Osun United are on the brink of appointing former Doma United head coach Akinade Onigbinde as their new manager, NigeriaFootballNG reports.

The Osogbo-based club has intensified its preparations for the upcoming campaign, with promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) identified as its top priority.

Onigbinde, widely respected for his tactical organization and player development expertise, gained national recognition during his tenure with Doma United, where he built a reputation for instilling discipline and developing young talents.

His anticipated appointment marks a statement of intent from Osun United’s management, signaling a renewed drive toward stability, structure, and success in what promises to be a highly competitive NNL season.

Osun United, one of the traditional clubs in Southwestern Nigeria, have spent recent years striving to return to the country’s top division.

Despite showing flashes of potential, the team’s promotion bids have been undermined by inconsistency and managerial changes — a gap the club hopes Onigbinde’s experience can fill.

For Onigbinde, the role represents both a new challenge and an opportunity to further enhance his growing reputation in Nigerian football.

During his time at Doma United, he guided the Gombe-based side to several impressive performances in the NNL, earning plaudits for his modern coaching philosophy and emphasis on youth development.

His arrival is expected to bring renewed focus and professionalism to Osun United’s promotion ambitions, as the club looks to re-establish itself among Nigeria’s football elite.
