Promise Damala: Shooting Stars midfielder rues team’s inability to beat Remo Stars

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Promise Damala has rued the Shooting Stars’ inability to overcome Remo Stars in South West derby following a 1-1 draw in Ibadan on Sunday.

Ghanaian Desmond Agbekpornu had given Shooting Stars the lead with a beautiful strike at the edge of the box but Aniekeme Okon’s equalizer ensure a stalemate at the Lekan Salami Stadium.

In its last six league games against Remo Stars, Shooting Stars is yet to pick a win after four draws and two defeats and the Oluyole Warriors midfielder says his team will get better in the coming games.

“It was really a disappointing result for us as a team because we actually needed the match to be in a better position after getting a much-needed victory away from home,” Damala told Brila FM.

“We needed to win the match so that we could consolidate and get a better position on the table but it was quite unfortunate that we couldn’t hold on to get the win.

“It is really painful because it is a derby match which from the previous meeting we haven’t won and are on course to win this particular one. Unfortunately, the win slipped out of our hands.”

Gbenga Ogunbote’s side occupy the seventh position on the Group A log with 17 points, eight points, and two places above the relegation zone. The team will next face bottom-placed El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri on Sunday.
