Randy Waldrum: Ex-Super Falcons coach makes shortlist of WCOTY award

Former head coach of Nigeria senior women’s national team, Randy Waldrum has made the final five for the 2023 CAF Women’s Coach of the Year award.

The American football tactician guided the West Africans to a second round of 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup where they performed creditably.

Waldrum whose future with the Nigeria national team in unsure after the expiration of his existing contract in September will battle for the top prize with four others.

He will also contend with South Africa’s Desire Ellis who is the current holder of the award, Mehdiel Qaichouri of Sporting Casablanca, Jerry Tshabalala of Mamelodi Sundowns and former Morroco coach Reynald Pedros for the Coach of the Year award.

The winners will be announced at the award ceremony which will take place in December.

Coach Justin Madugu has taken over the reins as interim manager of the Nigerian ladies for Paris 2024 Olympic and WAFCON qualifiers following the expiration of Waldrum contract.
