Randy Waldrum hails Jennifer Echegini’s brilliance in FSU comeback over Pittsburgh

Nigeria’s head coach, Randy Waldrum has described one of his players, Onyi Echegini as exceptional talent that can break any team.

Echegini who plies her trade with the Florida State University, FSU women’s team was instrumental for her team’s 3-2 comeback win over Pittsburgh team in the United Stage Women’s soccer championship on Thursday.

It was a match saw the Super Falcons midfielders went head to head against her national team coach who is also in charge of the Pittsburgh side.

It was the visitors who took a first half lead before FSU staged a second half rally with three goals, one of the which was from Echegini that could be described as winning goal as Pittsburgh would soon reduced the deficit to one.

Waldrum who was not happy with the result as he believed his girls could have done better praised Echegini for her brilliance and was not surprised her quality.

“I don’t want to take anything away from a goal because that’s what Joe [Echegini] does,” Waldrum said.

“She’s very good around the goal, but we didn’t close her. We just stayed off of her. Our defenders 2 yards away and never step to close it.”

“A good player like her will punish you if you don’t do that.”

The result, however seen FSU going on 12-match unbeaten streak against Pittsburgh as they are two games away from securing ticket to ACC tournament.
