Rangers’ boss Phillippe Clement hails Cyril Dessers’ professionalism despite limited role

By Wale Mustapha

Glasgow Rangers manager Phillippe Clement has praised Nigerian striker Cyril Dessers for his professionalism and dedication, despite seeing limited playing time this season.

With the arrival of Moroccan forward Hamza Igamane, who has become the club’s top striker, Dessers’ appearances have been less frequent, but his commitment to the team has not gone unnoticed.

Dessers, recently linked with a move to Serie A side Empoli and Spanish club Leganes, has been a supportive presence for his teammates, particularly for the younger strikers at Rangers.

Clement revealed that he had a recent conversation with Dessers regarding his reduced role, emphasizing the striker’s positive attitude and hard work.

“I spoke with Cyriel about why he played less than before, yes. And that’s because of the evolution of Hamza also,” Clement said.

“Cyriel is working really hard. He’s doing everything. He’s good in the group. He’s a very good lad. He’s always thinking very collectively. He’s in support of Hamza and has given him a lot of tips in the last couple of months, both in training and around games.”

Dessers, who has scored 13 goals and provided four assists in 32 appearances across all competitions this season, recently reminded fans and teammates of his quality with a strong contribution in Rangers’ latest win.

His professionalism continues to inspire his fellow players despite his reduced role.
