By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Under the intense Lagos sun, amid the watchful eyes of scouts and fervent football enthusiasts, one name consistently rose above the rest at the 2025 Bayern Munich Youth Cup Nigeria: Rangers International FC’s U-16 star, Anyalechi Samson.
The gifted creative midfielder captivated all present with his exquisite vision, dazzling flair, and football intelligence that belies his young age.
Operating as an attacking midfielder, Anyalechi stamped his authority on the midfield from the first day of competition. His silky touches, creative brilliance, and uncanny ability to read the game saw him orchestrate Rangers’ build-up play with the poise of a seasoned veteran and the hunger of a breakout star.
From threading splitting passes to initiating rapid transitions, his command of the tempo marked him out as a natural leader on the pitch, showcasing intelligent positioning and vision far beyond his years.
But Anyalechi’s game isn’t just about elegant flair — it’s backed by substantial grit. He proved to be a complete Number 10: scoring crucial goals, setting up teammates with precision, and pressing tirelessly from the front.
In a chat, the Enugu-based prodigy opened up about his journey, motivations, and unrelenting love for the beautiful game.
“This Bayern Youth Tournament is a great opportunity for grassroots players. It’s a wonderful tournament that helps us grow and develop,” he shared, acknowledging the platform’s significance.
For Anyalechi, football isn’t merely a game.
“I’ve been playing since I was a baby. It’s my passion — something I can’t imagine giving up,” he said with a radiant smile.
That passion, he revealed, runs in the family. His father, a talented player in his prime, never got the chance to play professionally. Through Samson, that dream lives on.
“My dad has always pushed me. He believes in me, and that belief fuels my drive. I want to go where he couldn’t.”
When asked about his ultimate aspirations, Samson’s response was delivered with unwavering conviction.
“I want to play for Real Madrid. My idol is Ronaldo because of his hard work and drive. But as a midfielder, I really admire Messi for his football intelligence — Messi is a beast.”
Still, his heart remains deeply rooted in his home club.
“Of course, I’d love to play for the Rangers senior team. But first, I want to prove myself at a European level — show that I can compete with the best.”
Like countless young Nigerian talents, wearing the revered green-and-white jersey of the Super Eagles remains a dream etched firmly in his heart.
As the Bayern Youth Cup nears its conclusion and final selections for the German trip loom, Anyalechi remains hopeful and focused.
“I believe I’ve given my best, though I know I can still do better. I expect to be selected — and I trust the process.”
Whether or not he makes the final squad heading to Germany, one thing is clear: Anyalechi Samson is a rising star with immense potential. With the right guidance and opportunities, he could become one of Nigeria’s next great football exports.
