Rasheedat Ajibade inspires Atletico Madrid to Copa de la Reina semifinals

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria forward Rasheedat Ajibade played a pivotal role in leading Atletico Madrid to a 2-0 win against Cacereno in the quarter-final of the Copa de la Reina on Tuesday.

Both sides were not separated after 90 minutes despite the top flight Madrid side scoring a goal which was ruled out for an offside.

In the extra time, the Spanish Liga F women’s side broke the deadlock through the Super Falcons captain.

Ajibade opened scoring in the 116th minute as Cacereno’s defence failed to clear a cross from the right wing giving the former Avaldnes player to tap the ball into the net.

Two minutes later, Sheila Pinto sealed the win for Atletico Madrid.

Ajibade was introduced in the 64th minute replacing Tatiana Pinto before finding the back of the net.

She has scored six goals with an assist in 14 league games while opening her Copa de la Reina account on Tuesday.

Up next for the capital city team is a league match against Deportivo La Coruna on February 16, 2025.
