Rumour Mill: Basel to decide Kevin Carlos’ future amid growing transfer interest

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

FC Basel are weighing up the future of striker Kevin Carlos as mounting transfer interest from top European clubs threatens to prise him away from Switzerland.

The Nigeria-eligible forward has emerged as a target for Ligue 1 side OGC Nice, who are keen to add attacking depth alongside Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi ahead of the new season.

According to Swiss outlet Blick, Basel are already anticipating Carlos’ departure during the current transfer window.

That expectation reportedly influenced their decision to sign 24-year-old forward Moritz Broschinski earlier this week as part of their attacking rebuild.

Carlos, who arrived from Yverdon last summer in a deal worth over three million Swiss francs, has registered 15 goals in 40 appearances for Basel.

However, he has slipped down the pecking order this season, starting only once — in a 3-1 defeat to Lugano — with Albian Ajeti preferred as the team’s first-choice striker.

With interest building, Basel are set to make a key call on whether to cash in on Carlos or keep him as part of their squad rotation heading into the new campaign.
