Nigeria forward Francisca Ordega is ecstatic after helping her Russian side, CSKA Moscow, clinch the 2024 Women’s Super Cup with a 1-0 victory over Zenit St. Petersburg.
After defeats in the last two Super Cups, success finally smiled upon Ordega and her teammates this year.
Midfielder Daria Yakovleva scored the only goal in the 81st minute, securing the Winline Russian Super Cup for CSKA Moscow for the first time in history.
“What more can I say? Thank you, Jesus. We have secured one and two to go. I am proud of this team,” Ordega posted on her Facebook page.
The match took place at the Gazprom Arena in St. Petersburg. CSKA currently tops the Russian Championship Super Liga with 30 points. This win ended a three-year wait for the title, which began with a 2-1 loss to rivals Lokomotiv Moscow in the 2022 final.
In 2023, CSKA Moscow also succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Zenit. The victory signals sweet revenge for the capital club as they are now in pole position to win the league title.
