Sammy Wejinya: NPFL board imposes ban on former Rivers United media officer

By Wale Mustapha

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) board has imposed a ban on Sammy Wejinya, former media officer of Rivers United and current media aide to the Rivers State Sports Commissioner, from all NPFL-related activities.

Wejinya has been banned from attending league venues and participating in any NPFL events until the end of the current season.

The decision follows a review of his article titled ‘Lafia, Pain, Blood and Escaping Death by Whiskers’, which the NPFL board claims misrepresented the true nature of the events described.

The NPFL stated that the article contained exaggerated and false statements that damaged the league’s reputation and brought the game into disrepute.

In the article, Wejinya accused Nasarawa United supporters of harassing Rivers United players following their Matchday 17 fixture in Lafia.

The ban is intended to preserve the integrity of the league and prevent any further harm to its image.
