Samuel Anakwe is excited about inspiring Remo Stars to a 1-0 victory over Nasarawa Amazons in the Nigeria Premier Football League encounter on Sunday.
Before facing off with the Solid Miners, the Ikenne-based side are winless in four matches in a row, following defeats to Akwa United (3-1) and Nasarawa United (2-0) with draws against Plateau United (1-1) and Kwara United (0-0).
The forward was named the Man-of-the-Match following his acrobatic strike inside the box to give the Sky Blue Stars a crucial victory ending the team’s winless run and he is pleased with his impactful performance.
“I feel excited because that is one of the most important things to win for the second stanza of the league,” Anakwe told Nigeriafootball.ng.
“We need the win to stay more focused for the next game on Wednesday. This win is very important for us to achieve our target. I like scoring.
“That’s one of my character. It’s not a matter of me scoring. It’s to help the team. I am not an individual player but a team player.
“Mostly what I want to see is for the team to progress to the level we are expected as all eyes are on us. We have to give our best and show character in every game we play. That’s one of the most important things for us.”
Remo Stars qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup after its third-place finish in the 2021-22 season and Anakwe is confident the team can achieve similar feat with a better result in the second stanza.
“We are still positive for this season. It’s just for us to understand our mistakes of the last stanza. I think the second stanza will be more better,” he continued.
“This win will ginger us ahead of the next game. We need to keep our heads for the next game. Expect more acrobatic goals from me. I am working hard for it. Every training and match I just want to score.
“In the dressing room, my teammates and coaches have the faith in me that I would score. The spirit is high and expectation from everybody is high.”
