Samuel Chukwueze eyes convincing Sao Tome and Principe triumph with Nigeria
By Wale Mustapha
Samuel Chukwueze believes a convincing victory for Nigeria over Sao Tome and Principe in the final African Cup of Nations, AFCON qualifier on Sunday will be enough to renew the team’s love from the fans.
The already qualified Super Eagles for the AFCON tournament slated for Ivory Coast in 2024 need an outright win to emerge winner of Group A. With 12 points from five games, Nigeria sit top of the group, two points ahead of Guinea Bissau who are also finishing the qualifier with a home game against already eliminated Sierra Leone.
Chukwueze who recently joined Italia Serie A giant, AC Milan from Villarreal in the summer revealed that the feeling in the team’s camp and training have been impressive and a pointer to record a good win.
“It’s always an amazing feeling to be in the Eagles team. The atmosphere in camp is great and every player is ready for the game. It is the first time in a while that “I’m seeing players fight in training. It’s a great feeling.
“We plan to win the game which is very important that we win the game even if we have qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations.
“I can’t remember the last time we won a game at home in Nigeria. A win will draw our fans closer to the team as we prepare for the World Cup qualifiers in November.”
Chukwueze will be aiming to make his 29th appearance for the Eagles on Sunday. He has scored four times since he made his debut against Uganda in 2018.
