Nigerian winger, Samuel Chukwueze inspired Villarreal back to winning ways following their commanding 3-0 at Osasuna in a Spanish LaLiga encounter on Sunday.
The Yellow Submarines were smarting from a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Anderlecht, condemning the Spanish side to European League elimination during the midweek and they bounced back in style.
Villarreal made a false start to the contest at Pamplona as they almost find themselves behind inside opening 10 minutes but Osasuna’s Porro fluffed the chance.
However, Quique Setien’s side regained control of the encounter and secure the lead when Alfonso Pedraza’s superb lifted pass found the Super Eagles winger and the latter fired home in the 15th minute.
Chukwueze was almost celebrating his second of the match for the Submarines but had his jubilations cut short after being ruled out following a review by VAR.
At the break, the hosts made few changes and they made a promising return to the encounter as Villarreal’s veteran goalkeeper Pepe Reina was forced to fantastic save to thwart Abde Ezzalzouli’s effort at the near post.
Villarreal held on to the slender lead till Jose Luis Morales scored twice in five minutes, first with a sublime free kick typical of David Beckham finish before reaching to the end of a well measured pass from Yeremy Pino.
The result saw Villarreal scoring three or more goals in a match for the first time in LaLiga game since September.
The Yellow Submarines will also be heading to international break with positives as they sit in the European football spot (sixth) next season.
