South Africa to face Flamingos in 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team will face their counterparts from South Africa in the Second Round of 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.

Their opponents was confirmed after the first leg of the First Round clash between South Africa and Gabon on Saturday.

The game was not concluded with South Africa leading 12-1 as Gabon started the match with 10 players.

The rest of their other players did not meet the age restrictions rule of the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

As a result, the return match in Gabon has been called off after only the first half.

Gabon has six players available to play and according to FIFA this match is now suspended.

The Second Round hame between Nigeria and South Africa will rekindle the rivalry between the two teams which has been a keenly contested on especially at the senior national team level.

While Nigeria is favourite on paper as a result of their experience at the World Cup especially a bronze medal feat in 2022, no team can be pushover at age grade level.

The Flamingos bowed out in the quarter final of the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Dominican Republic while South Africa did not qualify for the tournament.
