Super Falcons icon Asisat Oshoala set for Al Hilal switch

Nigerian football legend Asisat Oshoala is set to join Al Hilal Women after arriving in Saudi Arabia to finalize her transfer from Bay FC.

The 30-year-old striker, widely regarded as one of Africa’s greatest female footballers, joined the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side in February 2024.

She made 38 appearances, scoring eight goals, but struggled for consistent minutes this season, with Bay FC head coach Albertin Montoya citing “defensive contributions” as a key reason behind her reduced role.

According to The Athletic, Bay FC and Al Hilal reached an agreement on an undisclosed transfer fee before the Saudi transfer window closed.

Oshoala is expected to undergo a medical, after which the deal will be officially announced.

This move makes Al Hilal the seventh club of Oshoala’s distinguished career, having previously played for FC Robo Queens, Rivers Angels, Liverpool Women, Arsenal Women, Dalian Quanjian, Barcelona, and Bay FC.

The six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year will also reunite with her compatriots in the Saudi Women’s League, including Ashleigh Plumptre (Al Ittihad), Francisca Ordega (Al Ittihad) and Rita Chikwelu (Al Shabab), as the Kingdom continues to ramp up its investment in both men’s and women’s football.

Oshoala leaves the NWSL after a year and a half and is now poised to spearhead Al Hilal’s attack as they push for domestic and continental success.
