Super Falcons leave for 15-day Women’s World Cup camping in Australia

The entire team comprising players and the coaching staff of the Nigeria senior women’s national team have departed the country for a 15-day camp in Australia before heading to the official FIFA World Cup assigned base.
Nigeria alongside South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, Morocco’s Lionesses of Atlas, and Zambia’s Copper Queens are the four representative teams for Africa at the tournament.
Only seven national teams, including the Super Falcons, have participated in every edition since the competition’s inception in 1991.
Should the Falcons reach the last four in Australia and New Zealand, they will become the first African team to achieve that feat in Women’s World Cup history.
Meanwhile, ahead of their final departure from the country the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) hosted the players and the coaching staff at a dinner party in Abuja a day earlier, with NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau urging the team to be accountable.
“Football remains the biggest unifier across the world; it has helped to shore up our national image while helping to reduce criminal tendencies among the youth,” Gusau told the team.
“I want to encourage the coaches to be more committed because you will be accountable for the outing.”
Mr. Philip Shuaibu, the deputy governor of Edo, prominent sports officials, and diplomats were among the dignitaries that attended the dinner.
