Players of Nigeria’s senior women’s national team have received their monies for their participation and reaching the Round of 16 of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Four months after the conclusion of the tournament in Australia and New Zealand, Super Falcons players can smile home with their financial reward which was introduced by FIFA this year.
The nine-time African champions reached the Round of 16 from a group comprising Canada, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland.
Every player of teams that participated in the tournament are entitled to a $30,000 appearance fee.
For reaching the knockout stage, Nigerian players are entitled to $60,000 each.
In Australia, the team reached the knockout stage for the third time and achieved back-to-back Round of 16 qualification for the first time after getting the same stage in 2019.
The first time the West African giants will reach the knockout stage was in 1999 after a quarter-final placement.
However, a number of Super Falcons players exclusively confirmed to NigeriaFootball.ng that they got $40,500 as against $60,000 but yet to recieve their earlier agreed bonuses with the NFF.
A deduction of almost $20, 000 was as a result of tax payable to the Australian government for teams that camped in Australia, including Nigeria, unlike those camped in New Zealand.
According to NFF spokesman Ademola Olajire, “their 60k fee is subject to a whopping 32.5% withholding tax deduction from @ato_gov_au. This means the players are only being paid $42,500 each.”
