Super Falcons Take Recovery Day After Dominant WAFCON Opener

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Following their emphatic 3-0 win over Tunisia in their opening match of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been given a rest day by head coach Justin Madugu to allow full recovery.

Players who featured in the match will rest completely, while non-playing squad members will take a light walk around their hotel in Casablanca.

No injuries were reported from the Sunday evening clash at Larbi Zaouli Stadium, and the full squad will resume training on Wednesday in preparation for their next Group B game against Botswana’s Lady Zebras on Thursday, July 10.

Goals from Asisat Oshoala (4′), Omorinsola Babajide (45+2′), and Chinwendu Ihezuo (84′) sealed the win over Tunisia.

Nigeria currently tops Group B on goal difference ahead of Algeria, who edged Botswana 1-0 in their own opener.
