Super-sub Femi Azeez rescues point for Millwall in draw against Sunderland

By: Monsurah Olatunji

Super-sub Femi Azeez scored his first goal for Millwall to secure a dramatic 1-1 draw against Championship leaders Sunderland at The Den.

The Black Cats had taken the lead early through Aaron Connolly’s 10th-minute volley, holding onto the advantage through halftime and a series of key saves from Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.

However, Millwall came alive after the break, and in the third minute of second-half stoppage time, substitute Aidomo Emakhu made a driving run down the left flank before delivering a perfect cross for Azeez, who finished at the back post to salvage a point for the Lions.

Azeez, born in England to a Nigerian father and Spanish mother, is eligible to represent Nigeria, England, or Spain.

His crucial equalizer extended Millwall’s unbeaten run to eight games, with four wins and four draws since their last defeat on October 1 against Cardiff.

The 23-year-old striker, who played for 16 minutes, registered one shot and one goal, showcasing his impact in limited time on the pitch.
