Tajudeen Disu advocates for proper regeneration of grassroots football

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Former Nigeria International, Tajudeen Disu believes proper regeneration of grassroots players is the way to go as he calls for a proper way to regenerate grassroots football players in the country.
At the international level, Nigeria has won a record five-time of FIFA U-17 World Cups and is yet to win the title at the U-20 level, while the women’s team has reached the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup twice both losing to Germany, and recently won a bronze medal at India’s 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Success at age grade level has not been translated to the senior national level.
According to the former Flying Eagles star, it is the right time to put the right people in the right position to take charge of grassroots football development, stressing that the sense of money and politics have beclouded the judgment of those saddled with the responsibility to actualise this task.
“When you see grassroots football, you want them to win at all times when U-20 play U-15 while U-15 play lower age grade games,” Disu told Brila FM.
“A whole lot of people who are saddled with the responsibility to do the right thing travel out and see how things are done overseas but will come back to the country without doing the right thing because of the love of money.
“The love of money and politics are the bane of Nigerian football.”
