South Africa goalkeeper, Andile Dlamini insists that there are a lot of good and world-class goalkeepers in Africa.
The Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies save hands was voted the goalkeeper of the tournament for the second time at the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League in Ivory Coast after keeping five clean sheets and not conceding throughout the tournament.
Her stunning feat earned her nominations for the CAF Goalkeeper of the Year and she feels playing in Africa doesn’t mean a goalkeeper is not the best.
“Winning the CAF awards is not up to me. If it was up to me I would have said thank you,” Dlamini told NigeriaFootball.ng
“Nnadozie is an incredible goalkeeper. It is not only her that is nominated as well. It is not only the Nigerian goalkeeper.
“There are so many beautiful goalkeepers that are doing great for Africa. It doesn’t mean when you play in Africa you are not the best.
“Everybody is the best. Everyone that has been nominated deserves it.”
Dlamini will battle Chiamaka Nnadozie (Nigeria), Bawou Ange Gabrielle (Cameroon), Dolores Masongo (Equatorial Guinea), Imane Abdelahad (Morocco), Khadiaj Er-rmichi (Morocco) for the 2023 CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award. Others are Kaylin Swart (South Africa), Najiat Abass Idrisa (Tanzania), Catherine Musonda (Zambia), and Cynthia Shongwe (Zimbabwe).
