Transfer News: Cyriel Dessers considering Rangers departure for regular game time

By Wale Mustapha

Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers has hinted that he may consider leaving Glasgow Rangers in search of more regular game time after falling down the pecking order at the Scottish Premier League club.

Dessers, 30, has struggled for minutes this season, with Hamza Igamane now leading the charge for Rangers’ strikers. The Super Eagles forward has been limited to just one league start since December 2024, prompting questions about his future at Ibrox.

When asked about the possibility of leaving the club, Dessers expressed a desire to stay but acknowledged that he might need to move to secure more consistent playing time. The striker, who has been linked with Serie A clubs Empoli and Cagliari, is weighing his options.

“I don’t know what my outlook is now. I can imagine that Rangers might want to earn something from me now. But January is a difficult window,” Dessers told VI.

“Clubs that are doing well probably also have a striker who is performing well. And few clubs that need goals will immediately have the millions ready. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

“I’m at a great club, but I’m 30 years old and want to play every week. Preferably at Rangers. If there are different feelings about that internally, then we need to talk,” he added.

Dessers’ comments suggest he could be open to a move if his situation at Rangers doesn’t improve, with several European clubs reportedly monitoring his status.
