By Monsurah Olatunji

South African U17 attacker, Michael Dokunmu has revealed that he can not speak his father’s native language.
The Vitesse Arnhem attacking midfielder was born to a Nigerian father of the Yoruba tribe and a South African mother.
Eligible to represent South Africa and Nigeria through his parents, as well as the Netherlands, he was called up to the U17 side of the latter for a training camp in January 2023.
In April, the youngster switched his international allegiance to South Africa, and was called up to their U17 side for the 2023 U-17 Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON).
The attacker scored the third goal against Zambia in their second group game of the tournament, but was caged by the Golden Eaglets, as they fell 3 -2 to Nigeria on Saturday.
Despite representing South Africa at the U17 Afcon, the 17-year-old, who was born in Kimberly, South Africa, is still eligible to play for Nigeria at the senior level.
When asked if he could speak his father’s primary language (Yoruba), he said: “Sorry, I can’t speak Yoruba language, but my Daddy speaks the language fluently”.
