Head coach of the Nigeria U20 women side, coach Christopher Danjuma has revealed that some players of the bronze winning U17 women’s side will dominate the country’s squad to the first ever Wafu-B U20 Women’s Cup.
The Flamingos made Nigeria history in India, where they finished third, becoming the first ever women’s team to record a podium success at the U17 level.
The maiden edition of the Wafu U20 Women’s tournament will hold from May 20 till June 2, 2023 in Ghana and the even will feature Nigeria, hosts Ghana, Niger Republic, Benin Republic, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Togo.
And the Nasarawa Amazons tactician is optimistic his side will begin preparation for the regional tournament, while assuring they will make a strong statement at the tournament.
“I am sure very soon the NFF will make announcement about resumption for the camping,” Danjuma told BSNSports.
“This is the first time we are playing in this competition (WAFU B) and Nigeria are one of the key team to reckon with in Africa.
“We are still compiling list, as we seek to have a formidable team and having seen how the U17 (Flamingoes) played at the world Cup, with some players identified in the league. With this in mind, we will have a formidable team ready for the competition.”
