Uchenna Kanu makes NWSL history with brace-scoring feat for Racing against Portland Thorns

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria forward, Uchenna Kanu scored two goals to propel her NWSL side, Racing Louisville to a 2-2 draw with Portland Thorns on Sunday.

With three minutes on the clock, the former UANL Tigres player was at the end of a pass inside the box before her left-footed strike hit the back of the net.

Three minutes later, Kanu headed Reilyn Turner’s cross into the net to score her second of the contest as the two goals saw the Super Falcon enter the history books as the fastest brace in NWSL history.

It wasn’t enough to lift the visitors to their first win of the season as goals from Morgan Weaver and Samantha Coffey sealed a 2-2 draw.

That will be Racing Louisville’s third straight draw of the campaign.

Kanu saw 95 minutes of action before she was replaced by Maddie Pokorny after scoring her third goal in three games for her Club this season.

She will travel to Abuja, Nigeria’s political capital to join her teammates as Super Falcons face their counterparts from South Africa in two-legged deciding Paris 2024 Olympics Qualifiers.

Racing Louisville with three points from three games occupies the ninth position.

They will next face the San Diego Wave on April 14, 2024, when the league resumes after the international break.
