Nigeria forward Uchenna Kanu was on target for the second consecutive league game as she helped UANL Tigres to a 3-1 win over UNAM Pumas on Saturday.
Kanu had bagged a hat-trick in Tigres’ opening league games as her team thrashed Atlas 6-0, while UNAM Pumas suffered a 5-1 loss to Guadalajara Chivas.
On the day, Lizbeth Ovalle scored the first goal of the encounter at the half-hour mark, before Kanu doubled the lead for the visitors two minutes later and Stephany Mayor made it 3-0 in the 38th minute.
On return from recess, the hosts managed to keep their visitors at bay in the early stages before they eventually found the target in what turned out a late consolation through Stephanie Ribeiro two minutes from regulation time.
Kanu lasted the entire duration of the game and has continued to hit the ground running this season with four goals after two league games.
UANL Tigres occupy the top spot on the log with a maximum of six points after two games. The Mexican side will seek to maintain its perfect record to the Estadio Cuauhtèmoc, Puebla against Puebla on January 24.
