Victor Osimhen marks injury return with brace in Galatasaray victory

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria international Victor Osimhen made a triumphant return from injury, scoring a brace in Galatasaray’s resounding 5-1 win over Kayserispor in the Turkish Super Lig.

The Super Eagles star had been sidelined for two weeks after suffering a muscle injury during Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over Sivasspor. An MRI scan revealed a moderate strain and bleeding in his right upper back muscle. However, Osimhen made a strong comeback, marking his return with a stellar performance.

The 25-year-old opened the scoring early in the 4th minute from the penalty spot. The penalty was awarded after Ismail Jacobs’ cross into the Kayserispor box struck the hand of defender Joseph Attamah. Osimhen stepped up confidently, placing the ball beyond goalkeeper Onurcan Piri to give his team the lead.

Osimhen completed his brace in the 71st minute, scoring Galatasaray’s fourth goal of the match. With his two goals, he took his tally to 12 goals and 5 assists across all competitions this season, further proving his importance to the team.

Galatasaray’s victory was also bolstered by Barış Alper Yılmaz’s brace and another goal from Yunus Akgün. Kayserispor’s only goal came from Stephane Bahoken, but it was not enough to prevent the heavy defeat.

The win extended Galatasaray’s excellent form, with the team securing six victories in their last seven domestic matches. The result further cemented their position at the top of the Super Lig table.
