Nigeria international Victor Osimhen is confident that he can equal and surpass the legendary Rashidi Yekini’s record as the all-time highest goal scorer for the Super Eagles.
Osimhen’s goal against Benin Republic in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers saw him reach 23 goals, leveling with another Nigerian football legend, Segun Odegbami.
Yekini, however, remains the top scorer in Super Eagles history with 37 goals from 62 appearances.
The Napoli striker expressed excitement about his recent achievement and believes he has the ability to break Yekini’s long-standing record.
“If I equal it, I equal it,” Osimhen said, as quoted by Daily Post. “But that doesn’t take away the fact that Rashidi Yekini is the greatest striker for the Super Eagles.”
Osimhen’s respect for Yekini was clear, as he praised the late striker for his immense contribution to Nigerian football.
With his current form and drive, Osimhen is hopeful that he can continue his remarkable journey and eventually set a new benchmark for future generations.
