Victor Osimhen shoots Napoli to first Serie A title in 33 years

Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen scored an historic second half goal help Napoli sealed their Italian Serie A title in 33 years after their 1-1 draw at Udinese on Thursday.

The Partenopei had earlier missed the chance to win the title in front of their fans last Sunday but went into the match against Udinese knowing a draw would secure the elusive title for them.

Napoli fans’ enthusiasm of winning the title was dampened inside the opening 13th minutes when Sandi Lovric’s goal gave Udinese the lead.

The Luciano Spalletti led side tried to force an equalizer before half time but ran against luck as Osimhen’s team mate, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia had goal chalked off by VAR.

Just seven minutes to the restart, Osimhen got the equalizer for the Serie leaders ending his three game scoreless streak and registered his 22nd goal of the season.

He was able to get what should have been the second goal for Napoli but the goal was disallowed for a foul in the build up.

Udinese could not cause further harm on the eventual champions as Napoli held on to snatch the needed point which threw their traveling fans into wild jubilation.

Osimhen and the rest of his Napoli’s team mates will be remembered for years to come for repeating the same feat as legendary Diego Maradona in 1990.

The Azzuris have now won the Serie A title with five games to spare making them the third team after Inter Milan (2006/07) and Juventus (2018/19) to record same feat.
