By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has shared her joy following the team’s hard-fought win over Botswana.

Nigeria triumphed over the Mares with a score of 1-0, securing a place in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco on Thursday night.

Chiwendu Ihezuo netted the decisive goal late in the match.

The nine-time champions faced a tough challenge as Alex Malete’s squad delivered a commendable performance in the closely contested match.

Ajibade acknowledged that the Mares made it difficult for them during the game and expressed her gratitude for the win.

“Botswana is a strong team, and they demonstrated that in this match. No team should be underestimated in this tournament. Every team is well-managed,” Ajibade stated during her media interaction after the match.

“They are a very capable and respectable side. It was a challenging game for us. We are thankful for achieving the victory.”

Injury Concern

Despite being named Woman of the Match in the contest against Botswana, the former Atletico Madrid player has yet to reach her full potential in the tournament.

She has dismissed rumors suggesting she may be playing through an injury.

“I don’t have any injury; I am one hundred percent fit. I am performing to the best of my ability. For me, it is an honor to represent the national team,” she added.

The Super Falcons are set to face Algeria in their final group match at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on Friday.
