WAFU-B U-20 Women’s Championships get new LOC chairman
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
A new Chairman of the tournament Local Organising Committee (LOC) has been appointed ahead of this year’s maiden West Africa Football Union Zone B (WAFU-B) U-20 Women’s Championships in Ghana.
Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Football Association Osei Tutu Agyemang has been appointed as chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the WAFU Zone B U-20 Women’s Cup of Nations in Kumasi.
Executive Council member and Bechem United Chief Executive Officer Kingsley Osei Bonsu will serve as vice chairman of the committee.
Executive Council member and owner of Fabulous Ladies Madam Habiba Attah Forson will serve as a special adviser to the Local Organizing Committee.
The first edition of the WAFU B Women’s U-20 Cup of Nations is scheduled for Kumasi from Saturday, May 20 to Sunday, June 04, 2023.
Seven countries, including host, Ghana have confirmed their participation in the tournament, including Nigeria, Niger, Benin, Ivory Coast, Togo, and Burkina Faso.
Nigeria is favourites ahead of the tournament based on the pool of talent in the team, league, and bronze medal finish at the last FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
It is expected that most of the players that won bronze medal at last year’s U-17 World Cup will make the Nigerian team for the tournament.
Other Committee members include, Chief Executive Officer of Future Stars Stephen Appiah, Ashtown Ladies Chief Executive Officer Frank Todd Amoah and Hasaacas Ladies Chief Executive Officer Evelyn Nsiah Asare.
