“We’re not done yet” – Bayelsa Queens’ Ogbonda eyes more signings in WCL title hunt

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

Bayelsa Queens head coach Whyte Ogbonda has revealed that the club’s transfer activity is far from over, despite recently securing the high-profile signings of Janet Akekoromowei from Nasarawa Amazons and pacy winger Lucky Mary from Abia Angels.

With their sights set on the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League, Ogbonda says the club is determined to assemble a squad capable of conquering Africa, building on their domestic dominance in recent years.

Under his guidance, Bayelsa Queens have already claimed both the FA Cup and the NWFL title in the past two seasons.

“I’m very pleased with the quality of players we’ve brought in so far. Janet Akekoromowei and Lucky Mary are both proven attackers with the hunger and talent to help us compete at the highest level,” Ogbonda said.

“Their arrival adds depth, creativity, and more goal-scoring options to the team.”

However, he was quick to emphasize that the squad overhaul is still ongoing.

“We are not done yet. We’re still working to strengthen a few key areas to ensure we have a balanced, competitive squad ready to represent Bayelsa Queens with pride—both at home and on the continent.”

With the club aiming to improve on their previous third-place finish at the CAF Women’s Champions League—achieved under the late Coach Domo Okara—Ogbonda is confident his side is moving in the right direction.

“Our aim is to build a team that can challenge for every trophy,” he added. “I’m confident the new faces, alongside our existing players, will deliver the results our fans expect.”

Preparations for the continental showdown are already in full swing, and expectations are high as Bayelsa Queens look to etch their name into African football history.
