By Saheed Afolabi
England legend, Fara Williams have listed Toni Payne and Asisat Oshoala as the two players capable of tormenting the Three Lionesses in the round of 16 of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Williams holds the record of the most capped England women player with 175 caps and she has told the Three Lionesses to be wary of the threat that the duo of Oshoala and Payne pose when they meet.
While hailing the Africans for having a fine tournament especially Australia win, the English legend believes Nigeria poses more threat than China and as she urges the Three Lionesses not to get carried away with defensive duties.
“Nigeria have had a great start to the tournament, their performance against Australia was a standout for me. Toni Payne in midfield is a talent and Asisat Oshoala from Barcelona, everybody knows how good she is,” Williams quoted by BSN Sports.
“Nigeria do sit in like China did, so we need to attack the game the same way we did, defensively we need to be mindful that they pose more threat than China did. They’re physically strong, in a similar way to Haiti were in our first match.”
The encounter between both sides promises to be an explosive one and the English side are favorites to go through.
