Yewande Balogun keeps clean sheet in ZFK Spartak league opener

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigeria goalkeeper Yewande Balogun made her debut for Serbian club ZFK Spartak in their league opener on Sunday, where they secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Mulitanac.
Balogun was in goal for ZFK Spartak, and a 33rd-minute goal from Wolfe was the only scoring in the match.
This game marked Balogun’s first competitive appearance for her new team. The Super Falcon previously played for French side Saint-Étienne, where her contract ended at the conclusion of the 2023/2024 season.
The 34-year-old American-born goalkeeper had her college career at Maryland Terrapins.
Balogun has previously represented the Super Falcons, appearing once and being part of the squad for the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023.
After missing the roster for the Paris 2024 Olympics, Balogun is aiming to rejoin Nigerian side, particularly with her move to Serbia positioning her for a potential return to the squad for next year’s WAFCON.
