Nigeria’s head coach, Augustine Eguavoen, is confident his team will secure a comfortable victory against Libya in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Friday in Uyo.
The Super Eagles will face the Mediterranean Knights in the first leg of their double-header at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, with both teams looking to improve their standing in Group D.
While Eguavoen acknowledged that Libya will bring determination and a fighting spirit to the match, he remains optimistic about Nigeria’s chances.
“We know Libya are bottom of the group with just one point, and we are aware of our position too,” Eguavoen said, as quoted by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
“They will come here to fight, but we are focused on getting the three points. We are not thinking about the second leg right now. Our only focus is Friday’s game.”
The coach added that despite the expected tough encounter, his team is in high spirits and fully prepared for the challenge.
“We know what it means to get the job done quickly and efficiently. It’s going to be tough, but the boys are in good spirits, and there are no injury concerns.”
Nigeria tops Group D with four points from two matches, while Libya sits at the bottom with just one point. Eguavoen is determined to see his side continue their strong start to the qualifiers and take a step closer to securing their place in the 2025 AFCON tournament.
