By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Rwanda senior men’s national team ended Nigeria’s unbeaten record at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers with a 2-1 win on final Matchday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Monday.

The Super Eagles had booked their place at Morocco 2025 after a 1-1 with Benin Republic in their previous game.

The Amavubis on the other hand lost 1-0 to Libya and needed a win over the three time African champions to scale through while hoping Benin Republic falter to Libya.

Samuel Chukwueze opened scoring for Augustine Eguavoen’s side in the 59th minute from Frank Onyeka’s assist.

Two goals in quick succession from the Amavubis ensured a win for the team.

Ange Mutsinzi started the comeback in the 72nd minute from Jojea Kwizera’s assist before Innocent Nshuti scored the winner.

The result ended Super Eagles unbeaten record as far as AFCON 2025 Qualifiers was concerned.

Libya’s 0-0 draw with Benin Republic ensured that the win was ineffective.

Nigeria and Benin Republic qualified from the group with 11 and eight points respectively.

Rwanda which also had eight points as well Libya with five points failed to qualify for the next AFCON.
