2023 AFCON: Ifeanyi Udeze sets high hopes for Super Eagles
By Saheed Afolabi
Former Nigeria international, Ifeanyi Udeze has set high hopes for the country’s senior national team ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) tournament billed to take place in Cote d’Ivoire.
The Super Eagles have won the continental showpiece three times and are heading to challenge other 23 countries for the fourth title .
The former Super Eagles star believes the AFCON is an open tournament that can be won by any team which he believes the Eagles are capable of landing the trophy in Ivory Coast.
“The AFCON is an open competition. The Super Eagles have launched their campaign, ‘Let’s do it again,’ and I think they can do it again,” Udeze was quoted by the Punch.
“We have the players to achieve that, but currently, we lack the team. The coach needs to blend these players to form a cohesive team. Right now, we have talented players, but they haven’t gelled as a collective unit.”
Nigeria are grouped alongside, Ivory Coast, Guinea Bissau and Equatorial Guinea in group A of the continental showpiece.
The Super Eagles last won the AFCON in 2013 under the watch of late coach, Stephen Keshi.
